That's why AI didn't move the needle — and your metrics only see half of the picture
Developers are shipping more code than ever. AI helped — that's real. The dashboards look great. And yet
a feature still takes six months to reach a production and customer.
Writing code is one part of getting software out. There's the analyst figuring out what to build. The QA
work that has to happen anyway. The release pipeline that was designed back when "monthly" felt
frequent. AI didn't move any of that. But we keep measuring the part it did move, and then we're surprised
the top-line numbers don't budge.
I'll walk through three levels of measuring delivery, why most teams stop at the first two, what you can do
this quarter with the tools you already pay for — and one part of the problem that nobody in our industry
has cracked yet.
